Diamond Dust

Max Vernon

Sick of waiting for the stars above to realign
I didn't come this far just to be brushed aside
But the deck is stacked- I know, I bought the guide
I've become a captive of my own design

Twist and tear me like taffy, try to break me down
So you can mold and shape me with your battered crown
See the diamond dust fall, feather down
Hear applause in your fantasy surround sound

Creepin round your cardboard cave
Swear you're thinkin bout me everday
Will I pay the price of rolling with a gambling man's advice?

I am not mine; collarbound and hypnotized
I'll f-f-fetch your bone and drop it at your feet.
I'm your project; silent and obedient
I'm j-j-just a piece of property.

Will you swear on the bible to tell the truth
Duck and dive with their eyes burning into you
All the while fake a smile for the jury who
Are gonna watch your plastic thrown melt under you

When your heart drowned deep in the frozen lake
Took a sip of your Vicodin lemonade
But the scars of the past, they never fade away
Until you dip your toes into your liquid grave

I don't understand- why waste time you know you're already damned?
Feel the temperature rise.
In the boiling blood you will capsize.

I am divine; martyred and then canonized
I'll t-t-turn your water into golden mead
I'm the prophet; cosmic and omnipotent
So I d-d-d-d-d-d-don't need your charity

I'm sorry I can't pretend
You climbed a stalk to find a golden hen but I'm just a man
Pressing pain into future vinyl
Hands in wet cement will never be more permanent than the blink of an eye;
a piece of shell in an ocean tide.
Cause the world won't hold its breath to watch you die.
And you'll die alone.
