Girl from the countryside

Space Truck

How the World Ends

I'm stretched on wooden floorboards
And look at ceilings brown
The morning's coming over
And then I'll leave the house

To take the road that leads west
Way past the rolling hills
And marshes in the downs
Behind the turning windmills

If I could rearrange everything
And repair the mistakes I've made
Or if ever I could really know
Where to go just before I run
I would never have told her
That I didn't want to be hers no more
Or at least I could have understood
That I needed a change of heart

My little girl from the countryside
Staring at me from the picture's eyes
Holding a grey kitten in her arms
Captured in picture but lost in time

Not that I'm feeling lonely
I found somebody new
But pictures bring the past back
And open healed wounds
I think I'll try to write her
But what would I have to say
Maybe its best I try and forget
And let the picture fade

But the present is so very
Fleeting and all that it brings to me
How could I ever trust
That the first ever loved was the one to stay
If the passing of time and ageing of mind
Cause all to change
Never leaving behind more than pictures
And aches of remembering?

My little girl from the countryside
Staring at me from the picture's eyes
Holding a grey kitten in her arms
Captured in picture but lost in time
